Iowa Rush would like to congratulate Stephanie Williams and Alexis Heffernan who signed National Letters of Intent yesterday to play collegiate soccer next fall!
Alexis will be continuing her soccer career at Truman State University (Kirksville, MO). She made her final decision just days before the signing date and had this to say about Truman, "I looked at the school first and then at the soccer. I love the school and how it is set up. I also love the soccer, they are competitive and everyone seems very dedicated to the program." She also considered Wartburg and St. Benedict before deciding on TSU. Heffernan said, "I am excited to play soccer at Truman State and to experience college and begin a new chapter in my life." Alexis will join former Iowa Rush Alums, Madison Densmore and Sally Smith, who are current members of the Truman State soccer team. Pictured below is Alexis with her dad, Joe.
Stephanie will be continuing her soccer career at Kent State University (Kent, OH). The factors that were most important to her throughout the college selection process were the size and location of the school and to be able to compete for playing time as a freshman. Stephanie said, "I am excited for the college team environment and to have the opportunity to play soccer at the NCAA Division 1 level." She visited many other schools throughout the Midwest and made her final decision on Kent State over Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Truman State, Illinois State and others. Pictured below is Stephanie.
Both players put a lot of time and effort into their recruiting process and had some advice to share with younger players thinking about playing college soccer. Stephanie thought that the recruiting process was overwhelming at times and especially as she got closer to deciding but recommends talking throughout the process with your coaches and asking for their thoughts and help. Alexis enjoyed the recruiting process and said, "it's best to find a place where you can see yourself being and where you believe you will fit in."
