This past weekend Iowa Rush players participated with the National Rush Select program at the Open Cup tournament in Decatur, AL. The Rush Select program is run through Rush SPI, select teams are formed that are comprised of the top Rush players from across the nation at U13-U17 age groups.
The U13 girls from Iowa, Rylee Tilton, Riley Whitaker, Cholee Kooker, Megan Gray and Emily Fontana helped their team capture the Open Cup Championship. On Saturday morning, the Rush opened up against the defending state cup champion of Alabama, VHSC Attack of Alabama with a 3-0 finish. Their second game was a win over CFCA of Tennessee with a final score of 3-0. At the 8am game on Sunday they posted a 4-1 victory over HFC Alabama to reach the championship match. In the championship match, they faced the MSC Lakers of Louisiana and won 4-2.
In January, Tilton, Whitaker, Kooker, Gray and Fontana stayed with Georgia Rush families and were reunited with these families during the tournament as they cheered on the Georgia Rush.
