Iowa Rush Soccer Club

Nero Team Overview

The Iowa Rush Select Program is a comprehensive approach to developing players and teams. The club believes that players develop best when they are playing with and against players of similar ability, while occasionally being subjected to higher standards of competition.  Therefore, if the numbers within an age group are sufficient, the club will create teams at two levels within the Select
Program: Rush and Nero.

Training and game opportunities for players on both Rush and Nero teams involve:

  • Fall and Spring Seasons with three (11U-15U) or four (16U and above) Team Training Sessions, three Technical Sessions (11U-15U players), optional Wednesday Select Programming Sessions (11U-15U players), and three-four Goalkeeper Sessions per week.
  • Three tournaments in the fall and three tournaments in the spring.
  • Typically seven or eight league games during both the Fall and Spring Seasons.
  • Training and tournaments provided during the winter months which require a separate sign-up.

Additional similarities between the two levels of teams are:

  • All training sessions and games are coached by members of the club’s professional coaching staff.
  • Players are provided consistent assessment throughout the year by their team’s head coach, including a written evaluation and two Player-Parent-Coach Conferences.
  • Families receive periodic communication from senior members of the club’s coaching staff related to player development.
  • All players are given the chance to take advantage of opportunities such as Rush Fest, the College Advisory Program (CAP), and the International Tour.

The main differences between Rush and Nero teams are:

  • Rush teams are registered to compete in the ISA State Cup; Nero teams may register for this competition if staff deems it appropriate.
  • For league games, Rush teams play in the highest division within the Iowa Soccer League (ISL), or participate in the Midwest Regional League (MRL); Nero teams typically compete in the second or third division of ISL within their age group.
  • Especially as players get into their teenage years, Rush teams will typically travel farther for their league and tournament play.

In summary, players on Rush and Nero teams are offered similar opportunities, but play at different levels of competition.
